The Shady Old Lady's Latest News & Updates
Sam Phene on Oakley Street
2009-07-06
Samuel Phene's house that be built in Carlton Terrace which has now long gone, apparently was plastered with architectural relics on it's exterior. It was called the Gingerbread House by locals due to it's resemblance to a fairy castle (he modelled it on his families former French castle in the Loire).
It was pulled down in 1917, but does anyone have a photo or know the exact location, etc. of the house?
Does anyone know if the Phene Arms is still there and open? It was closed for a while - is it still?
George Best's favourite local can't have been that bad...
