The world's first cancer hospital opened here in 1851.

Location: Fulham Road, London, SW3 6JJ

Description: The world's first hospital dedicated to the treatment of cancer, was founded in 1851 by Dr William Marsden as the Free Cancer Hospital after the death of his wife.

In 1910 it was granted the royal charter and renamed in 1954. In 2004 it became one of the UK's first NHS foundation trusts.

Former patients include Charlie Watts and George Harrison. Plus journalist John Diamond, whose wifer Nigella Lawson opened a voice lab named after him here.

On January 2nd 2008 a massive first broke out destroying the upper floors very rapidly.
