The home of Chelsea Football Club - 'The Bridge' since 1877
Location: Stamford Bridge, SW6 1HS
Description: Stamford Bridge is the home of Chelsea Football Club, a stadium on the border of Fulham and Chelsea, in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.
Nicknamed 'The Bridge' by the club's supporters, it was opened in 1877 as a home for the London Athletics Club and was used almost exclusively for that purpose until 1904, when the lease was acquired by brothers Gus and Joseph Mears, who wanted to stage high-profile professional football matches there.
Times have moved on since then and the capacity is now 42,055, making it one of the Premier League's 'premier' stadiums.
Chelsea were founded on 14 March 1905 at The Rising Sun pub (now The Butcher's Hook), opposite the present-day main entrance to the ground on Fulham Road, and were elected to the Football League shortly afterwards - so there you go.
