William Morris' Georgian Retreat

William Morris' Georgian Retreat

Home to William Morris and a gorgeous Georgian brick mansion

Location: 26 Upper Mall, Hammersmith, W6 9TA

Description: Kelmscott House was the home of William Morris (he was English artist, writer, and socialist) from 1878 - 96 and is close to the premises of his Kelmscott Press.

The House is a Georgian brick mansion overlooking the River Thames. Nearby, Morris began his adventure in printing with his private press, the Kelmscott Press, which he started in 1891 at 16 Upper Mall, Hammersmith.

Kelmscott House itself is a private house and not open to the public. The basement and coach house, which serve as headquarters for the William Morris Society, are open to the public by prior arrangement.

The entrance is down the steps leading from the driveway - but make sure you check the website for viewings.
