Volunteers from Paddington

Volunteers from Paddington

Napoleon Bonaparte was thwarted in this public house

Location: 123 Bayswater Road, W2 3JH

Description: Apart from being an old pub... it dates from the mid 1700s - but this establishment also has a military connection.

It was used as a recruiting station for the 'Paddington Volunteers'. Now these hardy souls were formed to support King and country in fear of invasion from Napoleon Bonaparte, and what a good bunch they were.

Here's hoping they had the opportunity to take a drink when they signed up.
