Famous Drinkers to die for
Jack the Ripper & Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle were past drinkers
Location: 127 Gloucester Road, Kensington, SW7 4TE
Description: Dating back to the Victorian era, the 'Hereford Arms' has a long and rather colourful history.
It first came to prominence as the reputed drinking haunt of that nasty chap 'Jack the Ripper'... It was also made perhaps more famous by one Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle, another famous patron drinker, who named his most celebrated detective - 'Holmes' - after a nearby block of flats.
During the Second World War, American servicemen could be found in their droves hanging out here - probably asking for Budweiser - and indeed the nearby Hereford Square was often used to house baseball games between the Yanks and Allied troops.
Now if this pub does not deserve a visit...well I'll eat my hat!
