Not Rotten, but the first artificially lit street in Britain

Location: Rotten Row, Hyde Park, W2

Description: 'Rotten Row' is a corruption of the expression 'route de roi' which means 'Kings Road' and was the place to be seen in Victorian times, where toffs would parade up and down on their horses in their finest Sunday clothes.

And 'Rotten Row' can be found in Hyde Park - a broad track running along the south side of the park, leading from Hyde Park Corner to the west. In its heyday in the 18th century, Rotten Row was a fashionable place for upper-class Londoners to be seen. Today it is maintained as a place to ride horses in the centre of London... and not only that.

It's actually the first artificially lit street in Britain.
