School to an Eccentric Comedian
Comedian Graham Chapman studied here in 1966
Location: Embassy Theatre Eton Avenue, NW3 3HY
Description: Graham Arthur Chapman was a British comedian, actor, writer, physician and one of the six members of the 'Monty Python' comedy troupe.
He was also the lead actor in their two narrative films, playing King Arthur in Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Brian in Monty Python's Life of Brian. He co-authored and starred in the film Yellowbeard.
Chapman was a tall 6-foot plus, craggy pipe-smoker who enjoyed mountaineering and playing rugby. At the same time, he was highly eccentric and in later life became more open about being gay although it was well known by the Monty Python cast and crew.
Sadly Chapman died of a rare spinal cancer on the 4th October 1989.
And so to this very location...
It was here in the Autumn of 1966 that Graham Chapman and fellow partner in writing crime at the time (and then living partner), David Sherlock, started studying at this very estbalishment - the 'Central School of Speech and Drama'.
Based on the up-to-date website, the school combines the traditions of the conservatoire with the cutting edge innovation and enquiry of the best university drama departments.
So now you know! (you really should take a look at this site too...http://pythonline.com/)
