A Blue Plaque for a Car Legend
The pionner behind Rolls-Royce once worked here
Location: 14/15 Conduit Street, Mayfair, W1S 2XB
Description: Charles Stewart Rolls (27 August 1877 - 12 July 1910) was a motoring and aviation pioneer.
Together with Frederick Henry Royce he co-founded the Rolls-Royce car manufacturing firm.
He was the first Briton to be killed in a flying accident when the tail of his Wright Flyer broke off during a flying display; he was 32.
And so to this very spot - commemorated with a new Blue Plaque which was the address of his office and showroom for the first Rolls-Royces.
The plaque was unveiled by Lord Montagu of Beaulieu.
