Les Ambassadeurs

Over supper here, Sir Michael Caine's career was born
Location: 5 Hamilton Place, W1J 7ED
Description: This grand Georgian town house in Mayfair, 'Les Ambassadeurs' or Les A as its famously known was built around 1810 and has been extensively remodelled with fabulous extravagance by Leopold de Rothschild.
The restaurant on the first floor overlooking Hyde Park is one of London's finest, serving food until the early hours.
And so it was back in the 60s that Harry Saltzman, the James Bond Producer, wined and dined the rising star that was 'Michael Caine' at this very restaurant.
Vodka, Cavier and Blinis were consumed and the nervous star was taken aback by his surroundings and dining partner.
That was until Harry offered him a seven-year-contract with his company, with Michael remembering that the salaries on offer were 'longer than telephone numbers' and the first time ever he heard the phrase a 'hundred thousand dollars'!
How his life was to change and go on to make him one of Britain's greatest acting stars.
The casino has also featured in The Beatles movie A Hard Day's Night and the James Bond movie Dr No.
The Crown Estate have owned the freehold to this former Rothschilds home and grade 2 listed building since 1537. It is rumored to be built on the site of one of Henry VIII's hunting lodges.
Topshop owner Sir Philip Green won £2m here in a single night forcing the owners into a profits warning.
