Description: This is where, in his home, on 18th March 1768, author Laurence Sterne (24 November 171318 March 1768) died. It was less than a month his second novel, Sentimental Journey, was published.
He became famous for his highly successful 1759 debut novel The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman.
Laurence Sterne was born in Clonmel, County Tipperary, and at 24 was ordained as a deacon, and a priest at 25.
He had stayed at the lodgings here above a silk bag/wig maker the previous year to his death from January to May.
His last words were Now it has come.
