Bela Bartok stayed here
This is where Bela Bartok stayed during his visit to London.
Location: 7 Sydney Place, South Kensington, SW7 3NL
Description: This is where famed Hungarian composer and pianist Bla Bartk (1881-1945) stayed when performing in London from 1922.
The house was (at the time) the home of Sir Duncan and Lady Wilson, who hosted all Bartks visits to Britain from 1922 through to 1938. Many of his visits in the 1930's were in association with the BBC.
In fact he first visited Britain in 1904 but although his performances went well, he didn't make any strong impression.
The blue plaque was put up in 1997.
