Location: Marshall Street, Westminster

Description: Marshall Street Leisure Centre is a grade II listed building, which is currently being re-developed and enhanced to provide a stunning new iconic facility in the heart of the West End.

The first public baths were built on the site by the Vestry of St. James in 1850, and subsequent restoration began in 1928 and was completed 3 years later. The marble lined swimming pool has been restored to its former glory and is an exemplar of 1930s architecture.

There is a delightful bronze fountain sculpture in a niche near the shallow end, depicting a merchild with two dolphins, was created by sculptor Walter Gilbert (1871-1946).
