The Helter-Skelter
A massive new skyscraper in the city with organic curves.
Location: 22-24 Bishopsgate
Description: The Pinnacle, also known as The Bishopsgate Tower and The Helter-Skelter, is a 288m, 63-storey skyscraper currently under construction by architects Kohn Pedersen Fox.
When topped out at the end of 2012, it will become the tallest building in the City of London and the second tallest building in both the United Kingdom and the European Union, after the 310m Shard.
The upper floors will contain restaurants and the highest viewing deck in the UK accessible to the public.
It will contain more solar panelling than any other building in the UK, with 2,000 square metres of photovoltaic solar cells, generating up to 200 kilowatts of electricity. Like 30 St Mary Axe (The Gherkin), it will have a double-skin allowing it to respond dynamically to climatic changes and to utilise effective climate control with low energy consumption.
To drive construction costs down, every single panel on the tower will be of exactly the same size.
