Historic golf course in North London, where Spurs player died.
Location: Cattlegate Road, Crews Hill, Enfield, EN2 8AZ
Description: Crews Hill Golf Course was designed in 1916 by Harry Colt, whose CV also includes Sunningdale New, Stoke Poges, Moor Park, Swinley Forest, Wentworth, Royal Lytham & St Annes, and Muirfield.
Charles Whitcombe, Crews Hill Professional 1925 to 1950, captained and played for Great Britain in the Ryder Cups between 1927 and 1937 the year he scored a 59 without a 2 at Crews Hill.
John White, the Tottenham Hotspur and Scotland national football team player, was killed by lightning while sheltering under a tree at the golf course on 21 July 1964.
This area was once all the hunting ground of the Crown, modern Crews Hill however is less open, with many oak and silver birch trees defining this classic little course.
