This is an old massive pub on Denmark Hill.

Location: 149, Denmark Hill, Camberwell, SE5 8EH

Description: The Fox is a spacious pub dating from the 18th century, when it was situated further down Demark Hill and was known then as Little Denmark Halls. Later, it was called 'The Fox Under Hill', and after fire was replaced in 1874.

In 1786, it was the site of the largest entertainment hall in England at the time. It was called the Denmark Entertainment Hall in honor of the King of Denmark (hence the naming of the hill), who was visiting England when it was being built.

During the second world war it was destroyed by a flying bomb.

It was then rebuilt further up Denmark Hill and is now a Wetherspoon pub.

In 1963 Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor visited and had a drink here, while visiting the house of their chauffeur who lived nearby for Sunday Lunch. The both drank a pint of bitter!
