Pub with the naughtiest blue plaque in London.

Location: 23 Rathbone Street, Fitzrovia, W1T 1NG

Description: The Newman Arms is a famous pub, for several reasons.

It has had a whole raft of celebrity drinkers to sup it's beverages including Winston Churchill and Dylan Thomas.

The pub has also appeared in many films and television productions such as, 1960's shocker Peeping Tom, Minder, The Bill, Alas Smith and Jones and the Ali G show.

George Orwells is alleged to have drunk a pint here before heading off to fight in the Spanish Civil War.

The pub was built in 1730, but started by housing a tallow chandler, an ironmonger, a picture framers and even a brothel. Then in 1860, the tavern was established and, for the first 100 years, it only possessed a beer licence.

It also features an unusual unofficial blue plaque featuring the slogan Joe Jenkins, You're all F***ing barred. Ex Proprietor, Poet, Bon Viveur & Old Git, regularly swore at everybody on the premises.

Nowadays it's still a small pub with a Famous Pie Room upstairs. Love pies, try this.
