Location: 70 High Road, Chigwell
Description: This former ancient pub dates back to 1547, and was the original inspiration for The Maypole Inn in Charles Dickens' Barnaby Rudge. It's a grade II* listed building and historic landmark.
In Spring 2010 though local Turkish restaurant Sheesh moved here, financially aided by the pub's new owner Amstrad's Alan Sugar.
Other former drinkers as well as Dickens include Sir Winston Churchill and American director and actor Orson Welles.
