Atonement at St. John's

A 1728 Baroque Church, musically fabulous and a film star

Location: St. John's, Smith Square, SW1P 3HA

Description: 'St. John's, Smith Square' - situated in the heart of Westminster - is regarded, not only as one of the masterpieces of the English Baroque, but as one of London's finest concert venues, attracting internationally renowned artists and performers.

Since 1728, this Baroque Church was designed by Thomas Archer who asked advice from Queen Anne on it's design. 'Like That' she whined kicking over the footstool, thus the four towers on show and the nickname 'Queen Anne's Footstool'.

This wonderful building also took a starring roll in the Joe Wright directed 2007 World War II love story 'Atonement'.

The eighteen-year-old Briony Tallis walks along Lord North Street to St. John's where she guiltily holds her peace.

'Atonement' is a 2007 British romantic drama war film directed by Joe Wright. It is a film adaptation of the 2001 novel of the same name by Ian McEwan. The film stars James McAvoy, Keira Knightley, and Saoirse Ronan.
