Vera Drake's Local
A North London pub at the heart of a superb Mike Leigh film
Location: 181-183 Copenhagen , N1 0SR
Description: 'Vera Drake' is a 2004 British drama film written and directed by Mike Leigh, telling the story of a working-class woman in London in 1950 who performs illegal abortions.
It won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and it was nominated for three Academy Awards and won three BAFTAs.
Director Mike Leigh envisioned Vera Drake (Imelda Staunton) as a North Londoner living in Copenhagan Street.
And so to this pub, this was the local boozer where Vera's son, Sidney, and his pals keep the wheels of the alternative economy turning - it's 'The Mitre'!
