The Pixies at the East Hill

The Pixies used this pub for their album cover Surfer Rosa
Location: 21 Alma Road, Wandsworth, SW18 1AA
Description: 'The East Hill Pub' sits in the heart of South London in Wandsworth; a homely country pub inspired by long weekends at the country estate. With comfy leather sofas, walls lined with bookcases, rustic wooden scrubbed tables and armchairs in which to sink into, The East Hill channels a relaxed vibe, perfect for anyone wishing to seek refuge from the hustle and bustle of SW18.
And it appears that it is also a favourite of the band The Pixies! Because...
Some time ago, well around 1988, the band decided to use this pub (which also happens to be near the English independent record label Beggars Banquet office at 17 - 19 Alma Road) as the focus for the album cover for their first full length album 'Surfer Rosa', released in March 1988.
Surfer Rosa contains many of the elements present in the Pixies' earlier output, including Spanish lyrics and references to Puerto Rico.
Surfer Rosa is often cited as a favorite of music critics, and is frequently included on professional lists of the all-time best rock albums.
And so to the cover, well it's a rather erotic shot of a young lady in full-on voyeurism mode...all rather classy!
