Pete & Carl's Flat
The flat that Libertines Pete and Carl shared in Bethnal Green.
Location: 112a Teesdale Street, Bethnal Green
Description: This run down flat was where budding musicians Carl Barat, and his former partner in the rock band the Libertines, Pete Doherty lived.
They moved into the 2 bed flat almost straight after signing a record deal in 2001. It was squalid - no running water, they once filled the toilet cistern with Evian!
Doherty and Barat named it the Albion Rooms, a theme Pete in particular continues to day.
Pete Welsh, in his Libertines biography (Kids in the Riot), says they kept 50 notes in the fridge to pay drug dealers; and Doherty entertained wasted young women on a bed piled high with mattresses. They played intimite gigs here amongst the squalor - the police raided it once, prompting the band to serenade them with the Clash's Guns of Brixton.
By 2003, their friendship increasingly strained, Barat, then Doherty, left for good.
