Ophelia's River
This is the river used in John Millais' painting Ophelia
Location: off Church Road
Description: John Millais' most famous painting Ophelia depicts the Shakespeare character floating in a river before she drowns.
The river is not in Denmark like in the play, it is here. Millais spent 5 months painting a landscape here. He then added model Elizabeth Siddel who posed for the painting fully clothed in a bathtub at Millais's house (7 Grover Street).
Barbara Webb found the location having spent many years trying to find the exact location of the landscape.
