Where Paul Raymond's Theatre of War used to be.

Location: 14 Whitehall, City of Westminster, SW1A 2DY

Description: This was where 'Ye Old Ship Tavern' used to be, dating back to at least 1650. It was demolished in the 1920's and an Edward A. Stone designed Whitehall Theatre opened here in 1930 featuring a splendid art deco interior by Marc-Henri and Laverdet.

It is this theatre that became famous in the 1950s and 60s for being the home of Brian Rix's highly successful Whitehall Farces.

Then the controversial and phenomenally successful nude show Pyjama Tops starring Fiona Richmond ran here from 1969 to 1974. Future porn magnate and King of Soho Paul Raymond then bought the lease in 1971.

Somehow Raymond turned it into 'The Theatre Of War.' a bizarre museum which he hadn't got permission from the council for.

The theatre stumbled on and in 2003 was turned into two smaller theatre's.
