Description: This is the childhood home of jazz legend Sir John Dankworth (1927-2010). He was a saxophonist and clarinetist, and played with jazz icons such as Charlie Parker and scored a number of films. He was born here to a house of musicians and attended Sir George Monoux College in Walthamstow nearby.
He was described as the UK's 'first major jazz musician' and a plaque was unveiled here in October 2011. Sadly it wasn't very good; featuring a spelling mistake 'Saxophinist' and the nickname he disliked 'Johnny'. It was replaced in 2013.
He was married to acclaimed scat singer Dame Cleo Laine who unveiled both plaques.
