The London home of photographer and fashion icon Cecil Beaton.

Location: 8 Pelham Place, Kensington

Description: Sir Cecil 'Walter Hardy' Beaton CBE (19041980) was a famous fashion, portrait and war photographer. He was also an acclaimed interior designer and an Academy Award-winning stage and costume designer for cinema and the stage.

He lived primarily in rural Wiltshire but in 1947 he bought this townhouse as his London base. He and his mother both used it and many celebrities visited.

There's a great photograph of model Twiggy standing on a vase stand inside for Vogue in 1967, and another of artists Gilbert and George taken in the doorway here in June 1974.

On the 10th April 1968, The Queen Mother visited Beaton here as a dinner party guest which also include Roy Strong and Sir John Astor.
