Ravens Lodge at the Tower

Ravens Lodge at the Tower

This is the site of the raven cages, bombed during the war.

Location: Tower of London,

Description: The ravens cages or lodges are built on the ruined foundation of the MainGuard Tower (or Queen Victoria's Canteen), destroyed on 29 December 1940 by a German incendiary bomb. In 1944, the building was demolished, revealing the medieval wall of the Innermost keep. During the blitz only one raven survived (called Grip).
