Fox and Lewis
The oldest tobacco merchant in Britain, dating from 1787.
Location: 19 St James Street, London, SW1A 1ES
Description: James J Fox and Robert Lewis's is the oldest tobacco merchant in Britain, and probably the world. Established in 1787 and the first to import Cuban 'segars' arrived here in 1830.
Famous smokers Sir Winston Churchill and Oscar Wilde were both regular customers here.
The shop and accompanying museum still retain the relaxed atmosphere of a traditional British cigar divan and is the only place in the world where customers can sit in Winston Churchill's favourite chair and enjoy a fine smoke.
