Description: This pub was named after a surgeon who helped to quell an outbreak of cholera in the area in the nineteenth century, thanks to his research into waterbourne disease. An image of vilage water pump appears now and then to remind drinkers to stick to beer.

A fine pub, good (and cheap) beer, and no music! Interesting clientele: a mix of bike couriers, Soho characters and celebrities doing voiceovers. Worth an afternoon, followed by an evening. (Glenn)
