The Bull
The site where Sir Walter Raleigh entertained Queen Elizabeth I
Location: 100 Upper Street, Islington, London, N1 0NP
Description: This pub has had many names and facelifts over the years since this building was built in 1830, but is quite famous as the location of the house where Sir Walter Raleigh lived.
It is reputed that he entertained Queen Elizabeth I here.
In that time this was a rural area with fine mansions, gardens and orchards, and it was here that he learned that a poetical soldier could become a popular courtier if he secured the patronage of the Earl of Leicester - Queen Elizabeth's 'Sweet Robin' - or his nephew, Philip Sydney.
