Highgate Hill's Memorial Story
Dick Whittington and his cat are remembered here.
Location: Highgate Hill, N19
Description: At the bottom of Highgate Hill sits a memorial, a spot which according to legend, was a resting place for a man and a cat!
I know...an odd combination, but it was here that Dick Whittington supposedly heard the Bow Bells that summoned him back to London and a better life.
Many people are still familiar with this rags-to-riches tale, which sees Dick, a poor boy from Gloucester, making his way to London to seek his fortune, with a little help from his feline friend.
