Grand Seraglio... What?
Covent Garden - was once a hotpot of debauchery and naughtiness.
Location: Covent Garden, WC2E
Description: Covent Garden - a mecca of happening vibes, excitable people, shops, street performers, food, drink, pasties... it's one of the many London attractions at the top of the visit list.
But...for several hundred years this hotspot of energy went by a different name - 'Grand Seraglio of the Nation'. And why...
Well, it used to be full of brothels, gaming houses, Turkish baths and theatres. And so in 1704 Queen Anne decided that the area must be bought to order and cleaned up with a new bill, it didn't really take off initially, but as you will now see...Anne did get her way. If only we could turn back time and see the real 'Covent'?
