Joseph Mallord William Turner was born here - a great painter.

Description: A prolific artist, better known as just 'Turner', produced over 20,000 paintings and drawings in his lifetime.

In fact, Joseph Mallord William Turner (or the easier JMW Turner), often called 'the painter of light', as well as 'the great pyrotechnist', was born in London, England on April 23, 1775, above his father's barbers shop at 21 Maiden Lane, Covent Garden.

As one of the finest landscape artists, his whose work was even exhibited when he was still a teenager. His entire life was devoted to his art. Unlike many artists of his era, he was successful throughout his career.

And as the precursor to Impressionism he was and is an artist we should always remember.

The house however is now a Porterhouse pub but the road remains the same apart from the opening onto Bedford Road.
