The Bricklayers Arms
This is where the Stones first auditioned together
Location: 7 Broadwick Street, Soho, W1F ODA
Description: Bright and breezy, 'Sounds OF The Universe' is a stylish sound store in the heart of Soho. Its affiliation with reissue kings Soul Jazz records means its remit is broad. It also lays claim to be located in a once great musical pub - 'The Bricklayers Arms.
In May 1962, one Keith Richards took his battered guitar to this seedy Soho pub for his first rehearsal, which turned out to be for the 'Stones'. On arrival he was greeted by a brassy blond barmaid and unbelievable boogie woogie guitar - once upstairs the only person in the room is Ian Stewart, sat at an upright piano playing whilst looking out of the window towards his bike which is locked up across the road!
At the same time, the strippers on strip alley provide alternative eye candy entertainment.
After some time and some jamming, Mick and Brian turned up, as did Geoff Bradford...
And the rest they say is history
