Home to the Nemperor
Daft name for quite a successful music management man
Location: 3 Hill Street, Mayfair, W1V
Description: Brian Samuel Epstein was the manager of The Beatles. Through his family's company, NEMS (North End Music Stores) he also managed several other musical artists such as Gerry & The Pacemakers, Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas, Cilla Black and The Remo Four.
The tag name the 'Nemperor' was coined by the word-wizard resident deejay Bob Wooler at the Cavern Club - with Epstein being suitably chuffed with this new nick-name.
In fact he went on to use the name as the telegraphic address of NEMS Enterprises in London - eventually the NEMS offices at this very address was renamed 'Nemperor House' and his status as the Beatles manager took another step skyward.
Epstein eventually died of a drug overdose on 27 August 1967. The Beatles were in Bangor at the time, having a meeting with the Indian guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and Epstein had previously agreed to travel to Bangor after the August Bank Holiday.A concert by Jimi Hendrix at the Saville Theatre (which Epstein leased) was cancelled out of respect on the same day that Epstein died
Daft name though!
