Holborn's Hunting Lodge

Holborn's Hunting Lodge

James I took this route to reach his hunting lodge at Theobalds

Location: Gate Street, Holborn, WC1V

Description: After turning left off Kingsway and into this very street, Gate Street, you will find yourself at the location of two gates, on either side of High Holborn.

Well you would have been if you could go back in time to the era of James I, around the 1550s.

As it was here that James I and subsequent Stuart Kings crossed the highway from the direction of Whitehall (via Drury Lane and Great Queen Street), to reach Theobalds Road on the way to their much favoured hunting lodge at Theobalds in Herfordshire.
