A Market steeped in History

A Market steeped in History

Serving London with bargains for over 300 years

Location: Leather Lane, EC1N 7TP

Description: The market in 'Leather Lane' provides some of the best buys in clothes, toiletries, food, electrical goods, CD's and videos...and...

The market has served this part of London with typical market bargains for over 300 years.

Apparently, in the 13th century the street was called Le Vrunelane which was possibly the name of a local merchant but in the 14th century it became Loverone Lane, then to Liver Lane and finally to the Leather Lane it is known as today.

Curiously 'Leather Lane Market' is next door to Hatton Garden which has long been the home of London's jewellery trade and in particular; diamonds. This area (and some of the diamonds!) featured in the Guy Ritchie film 'Snatch'

The market tends to be open from about 9am Monday to Friday, slightly later that usual markets and starts to really get going from about 10am, it start to wind down from 2.30pm.
