Glitterbest
Scene of Malcolm McLaren's Glitterbest punk company.
Location: Dryden Chambers, 119 Oxford Street
Description: This run down building housed a warren of punk entrepreneurs in the late 1970s, including Malcolm McLaren's Glitterbest organisation at number 27. There are some superb photo's of the Sex Pistols taken here.
The fanzine Sniffing Glue, and several record labels - including Step Forward, Deptford Fun City, Illegal Records, and Miles Copeland's Step Forward were all here too.
Apparently the Dryden Chambers crew regularly gathered at nearby pub The Ship. Other nearby landmarks include the Oxford Street tube station where Mark Perry used a Xerox machine in a (now long gone) copy shop to produce early editions of his classic punk fanzine Sniffin' Glue.
Built in 1885, but not occupied until 1895, Dryden Chambers were designed by Sir Banister Flight Fletcher.
