The Stones rehearsed Here
Once a place for bands to rehearse . the Rolling Stones included
Location: 10/11 Great Newport Street, WC2H
Description: It was September 1963 when the Rolling Stones found themselves in the unenviable position of being the next big thing without a hit on their hands.
It was at this location that once housed Studio 51 that the Stones were rehearsing when their then manager Andrew Loog Oldham went walkabout in a fit of gloom over the fact that they needed a song and a hit.
And what a better pair to bump into than John Lennon and Paul McCartney on Charing Cross Road, to share his woes over a drink. And what was to become of this...
Well they came back to the studio and gave them a song, what was to be their next hit - 'I wanna be your man'.
After Brian put on some nice slide guitar, they knew they had a hit on their hands.
