The place where Sir Roger Moore was born.
Location: 37-39 Jeffreys Road, Stockwell
Description: Dr. Annie McCall had already established a school of midwifery in her own home nearby after being deeply concerned with the high death rate of mothers during childbirth.
She opened a second here on this spot - the Clapham Maternity Hospital, staffed only by women.
On October 2011 the main Hospital building, built in 1915, was listed Grade II by English Heritage.
The arts centre, Stockwell Studios, was built in 1915 as a maternity hospital run by Annie McCall, a pioneer of womens health.
The hospital closed in 1981 and the then-crumbling building was occupied by artists five years later. In lieu of paying rent to Lambeth, who owned the site, they agreed a system of levies to maintain the building, establish a community garden and run free art projects.
James Bond actor Sir Roger Moore was born here on 14th October 1927.
