Aleister Crowleys Den
The former home of occultist Aleister Crowley.
Location: 67-69 Chancery Lane, Holborn
Description: This is where legendary Occultist Aleister Crowley moved friend and fellow magician Alan Bennett into his flat in the Spring of 1899.
Much weirdness ensued.
Crowley installed two temples, dedicated to the dark gods and goddesses. In one corner it is reputed he kept a skeleton, which he fed on small songbirds and cups of blood.
Guests reported an intense atmosphere of evil as the two young men conjured hundreds of demons through a drug-fuelled haze (Crowley was one of the world's first heroin addicts). Sex rituals were reported too.
