Location: 36 Blythe Road, Kensington

Description: This was the remarkable place where on the 19th April 1900 when the Irish poet W.B. Yeats was besieged here by crazed occult-master Aleister Crowley. The clash here has since passed into mythology as 'The Battle of Blythe Road'.

This was the headquarters of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn - a magical order which practiced theurgy and spiritual development.

Scottish charlatan Crowley arrived wearing full Highland dress, a mask of Osiris, and a gilt dagger. Yeats was accompanied by a professional boxer.

Crowley tried to steal the order's secret rituals from the temple (in rooms above the shop here). He was discovered and was escorted from the premises by Yeats and Yeats did end up victorious in court.
