The Whispering Gallery
The infamous acoustics of St Paul's Cathedral's dome gallery.
Location: St Pauls Cathedral, Westminster
Description: One of the fascinating features of St Paul's Cathedral is the circular gallery which runs at the point where the vault of the Dome starts to curve inwards, it's called the Whispering Gallery.
The name comes from the fact that a person who whispers facing the wall on one side, can be clearly heard on the other, since the sound is carried perfectly around the vast curve of the Dome.
If you're taking kids it's a great little diversion, and you can teach them some acoustics/physics while you're at it!
