Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese
Simply, one of the most famous literary pubs in London
Location: 145 Fleet St, EC4A 2BU
Description: When Dr Johnson moved in next door in 1748 the Cheshire Cheese was already 80 - having been built on the site of a medieval friary that had burnt down in the Great Fire. The pub still claims to contain his chair. Later visitors included Thackeray, Dickens (who name checks it in A Tale Of Two Cities), Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Chesterton, Bellos and so on. It is, simply, one of the most famous literary and journalistic pubs in the world.
