Location: Thai Cottage, 34 D'arblay Street, Soho, London, W1F 8EX
Description: This is the restaurant that sparked a terror alert in October 2007 when a toxic cloud of acrid fumes in the surrounding streets caused emergency crews to break in and arrest the suspect bowl of nam prik pao.
They found only Thai chef Chalemchai Tangjariyapoon preparing a batch of nam prik pao, a hot sauce or paste consisting of burnt chillies, garlic flakes, dried shrimp, palm sugar, shrimp paste, tamarind and vegetable oil.
