Description: The Royal Academy of Music (RAM) is the oldest conservatoire in the UK, founded in 1822 by John Fane and Nicolas-Charles Bochsa. It received its royal charter in 1830 from King George IV with the support of the first Duke of Wellington.
The academy's first building was in Tenterden Street, Hanover Square. In 1911 the institution moved to the current premises, designed by Sir Ernest George and has seen several expansion developments to include a museum, the 150-seat David Josefowitz recital hall, a musical theatre studio and several teaching and practice rooms.
Famous academy alumni include Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Sir Elton John, Michael Nyman, Vanessa-Mae, Arthur Sullivan, Bill Bailey, Aled Jones, Annie Lennox, and Katherine Jenkins.
