St Cedd's Church Goodmayes
The first Methodist church to be sold to the Catholic Church.
Location: 4 Blythswood Road, Ilford
Description: The splendid red brick Goodmayes (Wesleyan) Methodist Church was built in 1904, with galleried interior and hammerbeam roof, hall and Sunday school.
The church controversially became St Cedd's Catholic Church in 1966 and was said to have been the first Methodist church to be sold to the Catholic Church (for 57k).
The parish was in the care of the Vincentians until 1994, when the Missionaries of La Salette took over (see the statue of Our Lady of La Salette by the altar).
The miracle of La Salette ocuured on Saturday 19th September 1846, when a Beautiful Lady appeared to two children in the French Alps near the village of La Salette.
This is the church where England football legend and former manager Terry Venables married wife Christine.
