Borough for Pubs
Playwright Thomas Dekker - Borough High Street...'is just pubs'.
Location: Borough High Street, SE1 4XW
Description: In the 17th Century, the playwright Thomas Dekker described Borough High Street as a 'continued ale house with not a shop to be seen between.'
Though there are some shops now, some of those grand old inns stand in the courtyards off the main highstreet, notably The George - a 1676 National Trust building, it is London's last remaining galleried coaching inn.
