A Palatial Cinema Experience
Art Deco, Magnificent, and Blockbusters a plenty
Location: 14 South Road, Southall, UB1 3RT
Description: And I quote... 'Welcome to the Himalaya Palace - the most luxurious 3 screen cinema in West London' - or so the website says.
What we can be sure of is the buildings 'art deco' feel under a red pagoda roof, a magnificent creation by the great cinema architect George Coles. It was rescued from demolition and renamed by local businessman Surjit Phander, reopening in 2001 as the finest place in London to see the latest Bollywood blockusters.
The noisily appreciative locals and amazing building add a real flavour of the sub-continent to the movie-going experience. It also shows a full program of mainstream Hollywood films.
So the website may just be right.
