A Bleak Childhood Home
Sir Michael Caine's first childhood home
Location: 14 Urlwin Street, off Camberwell Road, SE5
Description: It was back in 1933 and shorty after the birth of one Maurice Micklewhite junior on the 14th March 1933 - that the Micklewhite family moved to this street.
A two-room flat at the top of the house was to become the childhood home of what would become one of the finest actors of his generation.
Sir Michael Caine's start in life in this street was a tough one - the area was one of the shabbiest, most squalid areas of the capital - they shared the house, which rattled from trains travelling over an adjoining bridge, they even shared a toilet in a damp lean-to at the bottom of the garden.
A bleak start to an amazing life and career of a great acting talent and chap!
